Activities for Kids: Over 80 Ideas for Spring Break Week

Are you gearing up for Spring Break week? It is around the corner. Maybe you are traveling, staying home or a little bit of both. I have a list of activities for kids that is free or very inexpensive. You might want to Pin this on Pinterest so you have it handy in the coming weeks.

To make things easier for you, these activities are broken down by category. I understand that some of you have sunny weather during Spring Break and others still have colder weather. I am including ideas and activities for everyone!

80+ spring break activities for kids

Places to Go:

  1. Go fly a kite.
  2. Go on a staycation.
  3. Go to a local toy store and let your kids play their heart out. There is an awesome local toy shop here that my kids love to go to even if we do not buy a thing.
  4. Go to the library. Check out books and join story time.
  5. Go have a play date at McDonald’s with a friend. Tight on cash, just have ice cream cones they are a buck!
  6. Go to your local home supply store or craft store and see if they are offering any free children’s clinics.
  7. Go walk at the mall.
  8. Go for a Sunday Drive any day of the week.
  9. Go to a local indoor water park.
  10. Go camping. Front yard, back yard, in the living room, or make it a weekend trip in another town.
  11. Go to your local recreation center in your city and see what activities or classes they offer for super cheap!
  12. Go to the park. Hello, that is hours of free entertainment. And at my favorite park, they have trails that we all love to walk after playing at the playground.
  13. Going on a road trip? Check out these road trip free printables for little ones.
  14. Go on a worm hunt.
  15. Go fishing.
  16. Go feed the ducks. My kids LOVE this!
  17. Go on a factory/plant tour.
  18. See if your church is offering any activities during this week.

Crafts and Projects to Make:

  1. Make I Spy Bags.
  2. Make paper plate zoo animals.
  3. Make a character breakfast out of food. The kids will love helping!
  4. Have fun with your food and make a creative snack.
  5. Paint with kool-aid. Smells good too!
  6. Read your favorite Dr. Seuss book and create a craft to do with it.
  7. Make things out of cardboard. Check out this awesome idea- filled- post on cardboard creativity 101. Then, hop over and check out Tip Junkie’s list of 32 things you can make with cardboard.
  8. Make your own slime using this recipe, which glows in the dark!
  9. Make homemade play dough. I also have a pie flavored playdough recipe.
  10. Make goop.
  11. Make S’Mores- go traditional or make these Owl S’Mores. So cute!
  12. Make homemade marshmallows.
  13. Make soap on a rope.
  14. Make these bird treats and hang them in a tree near a window so you can watch the birds enjoy. Here is another awesome bird treat tutorial.
  15. Make bathtub puff paint.
  16. Bake Mommy Cookies together.
  17. Make this cherry cake recipe together.
  18. Make an obsticle course (or hold an olympics) in your backyard. So fun! You can make first place, second place, third place ribbons using construction paper and yarn.
  19. Make a sensory tub. Great for toddlers and preschoolers.
  20. Make a time capsule.
  21. Make homemade ice cream. Here is a list of tips as well as five recipes you can make! And I have a recipe for ice cream without a machine.
  22. Make homemade bubbles.
  23. Make liquid sidewalk chalk and then have a creativity contest.
  24. Make a pet rock.
  25. Make homemade finger paint.
  26. Make your own felt play mat.
  27. Make a busy tray. Super smart and practical.
  28. Re-purpose broken crayons into your favorite mold shape and print some free color sheets.
  29. Make a lemonade stand.
  30. Make homemade pizza together. Here is a list of ways to make pizza un-boring.
  31. Make your own board game.
  32. Make sock puppets and have a sock puppet play.
  33. Make finger puppets. Here is a free download.
  34. Make your own stick horse.

  37. Make an assortment of muffins together. Here are 28 muffin recipes you can indulge in.
  38. For your little toddler guys who want to be crafty, make ice paint. Pretty cool.

Things to Play and Do:

  1. Play balloon hockey.
  2. Do something free.
  3. Skip rocks. Simple, free, fun, lost art.
  4. Have a bike parade.
  5. Have a day of watching movies. Utilize services like NetFlix or Redbox. You can even check them out for free at your local library.
  6. Have a family board game party or game night.
  7. Feed the ducks. My children LOVE doing this!
  8. Shop garage sales. You can find board games, movies, etc for cheap, cheap!
  9. Have a picnic at the park, in your living room, or in your front yard.
  10. Visit the nearest beach.
  11. Have a yard sale. Have your children help and learn the value of a dollar.
  12. Have a bon fire and roast marshmallows.
  13. Make water balloons and have a water balloon fight if it is warm enough.
  14. Welcome the troops at the airport. I have been wanting to take the kids to do this for a long, long time.
  15. Play I Spy.
  16. Play frisbee.
  17. Volunteer as a family.
  18. Invent a new recipe together.
  19. Catch lightning bugs.
  20. Have a scavenger hunt.
  21. Play Mad Libs and share your stories. So fun! If you do not have a Mad Libs book, here is an online knock-off.
  22. Jump on the trampoline.
  23. Play kickball.
  24. Play dodgeball.
  25. Play tug-of-war.
  26. Put a puzzle together as a family.
  27. Play hide and go seek in the dark.
  28. Call local theatres and see if they offer free for dollar movies during Spring Break week.
  29. Build a clubhouse or a fort.
  30. Plant something- start your garden now. It can be food or flowers.
  31. Write handwritten letters to family.
  32. Start reading a classic as a family read 20-30 minutes of it out loud a day. Huck Finn, Little Women, etc.

  34. Play dress up. (My boys love to play in old Halloween costumes.)

  8. Amazing list! I don’t know where to start. I’m going to try breaking them up by category and maybe put some on little pieces of paper and draw from a hat. Then all those good ideas don’t seem so overwhelming! Thanks for a great list!
