Milk, toilet paper, antibacterial hand soap and paper towels

Sharing is caring!

Crazy combination isn’t it?

These are the things we consume the most of in our house each week. With seven people (five children and two adults) every time I turn around I am purchasing these items even though I buy them in bulk.

Milk– everyone in our house drinks it except me. Between the baby’s bottles, endless cups of chocolate milk and using it over cereal we go through a gallon a day easily.

Paper towels– I know this is so uneconomical of me, but I do not like to use hand towels in the kitchen or bathroom with all of these boys. Oh my, that is just an infestation of germs waiting to happen! Not only do we use paper towels after cleaning our hands, but I use tons in the kitchen as well for cleaning- especially wiping down cabinets. I embarrassingly report that one rolls lasts a max of two days in our house (if we are lucky).

Antibacterial hand soap– I’ve said for a long time the best place to hide a cookie in a house full of boys  is under the soap dish. I am constantly reminding my children to wash their hands. We go through about two bottles a week- one in the bathroom and one in the kitchen. We prefer the foamy kind.

Toilet paper–  pretty self explanatory with so many behinds. A roll a day. Not to mention the whole rolls that two certain little men try to flush down the drain.

What are the items you and your family go through the quickest? Is your list a lot like mine?

Yes! Mine is just like yours, we could live in the same house! 🙂

  2. I now refill my foam antibacterial soap dispensers myself. I buy the big antibacterial container from Wal-Mart. I put about an inch in the bottom of the dispenser and fill the rest with water. If I remember, I put the water in first and then the soap so it doesn't bubble over.

But toilet paper, paper towels, and milk are always on top of my list. I've taken to buying the toilet paper and paper towels in MEGA-bulk. Like last week I bought 7 packages of 12 double-rolls of the toilet paper at one time. The week before I bought 6. Now I have a lovely stockpile in my closet. 🙂

Since I use paper towels to make baby wipes, I also buy those in bulk. The big 12-packs went on sale and I bought 8 of them. I got some crazy looks. haha

Now if only I could convince my hubby (and the Air Force Base) to let me have a cow.

  3. At our house we go through chicken and pig feed the quickest.

We also never have bread. I have a bad habit of giving some to the chickens. I LOVE to give some to the mamas and babies. The mamas cluck and cluck to tell the babies to eat it. It's so cute!

Definitely paper towels! I love those things. I'm with you… using a reusable towel just feels gross to me.

  5. Oh, I'm with you on paper towels! I'm trying to cut down on my usage of them, but I've just always despised rags (in the kitchen)…
We go through eggs very quickly at our house.

1)Bagels-Everyone in my house LOVES them and eat them for breakfast often
2)String cheese- Again a house favorite
3)laundry detergent- My husband has his military uniform, running clothes, regular clothes, and military workout gear. Plus add myself and two extremely active boys who are always dirty and we have a lot of laundry to do.
4)Printer Ink- I run a home business and I am always running out of ink due to the amount of stuff that I print.
    5) Popcorn- (not microwave) My favorite snack

  7. Martha- you must have many children like me…

Nikki- I buy the big bottle to refill the little bottles of soap too. That is the only way to go with that stuff when each bottle needs to be refilled once a week.

Kim- chickens eat bread? I did not know that! You're so crazy!

Cancun- I know… papertowels all the way. With boys we would all die of some hand disease if we shared a hand towel in the bathroom!

Alicia- I've tried using a sponge in the kitchen, but they just fester so much bacteria. I've even microwaved the sponges before each use to kill germs, but that just destroys the sponges after so many times… so I stick with my paper towels and ask all the trees to forgive me.

Andrea- popcorn on the stove was my favorite snack as a kid. I like to make it now for my kids too! Fun!

    Thanks guys for sharing!

  8. Crystal & Andrea-

I'm intrigued as to your "recipe" for homemade popcorn. We have an air popper. But I can't seem to get the right seasoning or butter amounts.

How do you do it on your stove?

  9. Nikki- popcorn on the stove…. just take a sauce pot (like what you would make a pot of soup in) and put about 1/3 of a cup of vegetable oil in it over medium high heat.

Once the oil seems hot put one kernel in. Once it 'pops' add enough kernels to cover the oil. Put a lid on it and let it pop.
Turn the heat off once the pops get farther between.

Add some salt if you want and enjoy!

In 1989 (as a kid) we served it with a nice big glass of red KoolAid! (Tropical Punch of course.) Today, KoolAid would send my household into a manic whirlwind.

  10. Crystal- Thanks! Can't wait to try it!
