Home Remedies: Carpet Stains

Sharing is caring!

I have said over and over again, the best color for carpet is the color of dirt when you have a houseful of boys.

Dirt is constantly tracked in, things are knocked over and spilled (even if there is a house rule that all food is to be kept at the table) and messes are made over and over again at our house. Especially on the living room carpet.

Here is an awesome home remedy for getting stains out of the carpet.

carpet stain

Take lemon juice and cream of tartar and make a paste.

Dab the stain with the paste.

Let it sit a bit- five to ten minutes.

Use a damp cloth to clean up the paste and stain- and you’re done.

Give it a try!

I’m pinning for my next big spill.

  5. Does this work on both fresh and dry stains? My cat vomits a lot, especially at night, and we clean the solid part, but don’t get to cleaning the stain for a few days sometimes. Should this work?

    Thanks!

    1. Jessica- I do not have a cat, so I have no idea how well it would work on dried cat vomit, but I think it worth a shot.

(Is it normal for cats to vomit a lot? Could she be allergic to her food?)

      Best of luck.

      1. Yes, actually it’s normal. He will overeat and then throw it up. Have you tried this tip on dried carpet stains, though?

        thanks for replying!

    2. Jessica have you tried the solution? also I wanted to tell you try to buy cat food that has the hairball formula in it, its help break down the hair so cats don’t throw up as much I bought it for my cat of 18yrs and that help a lot.
      Good luck

  6. Yes, I tried it just a few minutes ago (finally bought cream of tartar!) and it worked wonderfully! I think I put too much of the paste because there is still a little white powder in my carpet, but it will vacuum up fine.

And thanks, but he never throws up hair. He just will go gorge himself on food and throw it right back up. Then go eat again, haha.

    1. Jessica- thank you so much for the feedback with your testimonial.
You rock and I am so glad it was a success for you!

      1. I’m so glad it worked, too! I’m planning on trying it on some older stains today, so I’ll try to remember to update how it goes on these 1 and 2 month old stains. 🙂

    2. Oh yeah! The old scarf & barf routine. I had a cat that was sensitive to the different colors food. We switched her to the plain and she did it less.
