Did you know you can make a cake in the crockpot?
For real, my friend.
Need a dump- and- go, super simple, dessert recipe for an upcoming event… like a lazy Saturday? You’ve gotta make this cake!
Ingredients:
- 1 boxed devils food cake
- 3 eggs
- 1/3 c vegetable oil
- 1 2/3 cup water
- 1 pkg Chocolate Flavor Instant Pudding Mix
- 2 cups cold milk
- 1 bag chocolate chips (I used milk chocolate)
Add the eggs, cake mix, oil and water to a batter bowl and mix well.
Once well combined, pour the mixture into your crockpot.
Next, mix the cold milk and the Instant Chocolate Pudding in a batter bowl with a whisk.
Once the consistency is firm, pour the pudding over the cake batter.
Do not mix it into the batter, just pour it over the top of the batter.
Sprinkle the bag of chocolate chips over the cake and pudding.
Put a lid on it and let it cook for 2-3 hours on high.
When it is done it will look bubbly.
Scoop up some cake and a nice helping of ice cream (we got vanilla bean ice cream on clearance at Target) and prepare yourself for the yummiest dessert you’ve ever tasted.
From the crockpot, no less.
Warning: this is sweet. I could only handle a couple of bites, but everyone else devoured it!
Don’t forget, Crystal & Co., has tons of easy recipes, many of which are crockpotable!
(I found this recipe originally over at the Crockpot Girls website.)

As it is winter here in Australia my crockpot sits out on my countertop nearly 24/7. I never thought about making dessert in it too. Thanks for the recipe.
Dessert in the crockpot is the best. This recipe is yummy!

another I am going to have to try…thanks again for sharing
This sounds amazing! I haven’t done a dessert in my crock pot yet, but I need to give it a try!
my husband has been “craving” lava cake for a week now, so i’m trying this tonight. if all goes well, i think i may try it with choc cake mix and white choc pudding and white choc chips next. another variation i’m going to try is yellow cake mix with choc chips mixed in, then the choc pudding and choc chips for the “lava”……so many options!
Jessica- all of those variations sound awesome. Let me know which is your favorite.
About how long did it take for the cake batter to become firm?
Leslie-
I really cannot say at what point the cake became firm because I was not home the entire time that it was cooking. But, that picture in the tutorial that shows the cake mix bubbly in the crockpot, it had cooked for 3 hours on high at that point and it was done.
Hope that helps.
This sounds so wonderful! I have one question though–does it matter what size crock pot to use? Thanks!
I used a 6 qt oval. I think it works best for making this cake cook evenly at a good speed.
