How to Create Inexpensive Art for Your Home
I have a problem. I keep just about everything my children make.
Garrett is 12. I have things he made when he was 3 years old.
There is so much artwork we are using an old dresser to store some of it in. (That was my friend Kim’s idea. Thanks Kim!)
I just can not bring myself to get rid of it. My children took their time to make these things.
And besides, it is all precious. Each piece of work represents a memory and a season of our lives.
But sitting in a drawer no one gets to see it.
I need some artwork to decorate the walls of our dining room. I’ve seen a couple of great posts by other bloggers (like We Are THAT Family and June Cleaver Nirvana) where they converted their childrens’ artwork into decorative art for their homes.
Why not? Here is how you can do it on a budget.
Start with document frames. I bought these at Walmart for less than $2 each. I bet I could find them at Ikea or Dollar Tree for even cheaper.
I started with just eight frames. Clearly I will need more.
Pop the glass from the frame like this.
Document frame assembly is really simple.
There is a plastic frame, a piece of glass and a sheet of cardboard.
Discard the sheet of paper that says document frame.
Cut your artwork down to the size of the frame.
Pop the artwork in the frame and reassemble it.
For artwork that is smaller than the size of the frame, use cardstock as a background.
Hang.
I spent $16 to and I now have eight pieces of framed art.
This is certainly a mommy solution.

I have seen people frame their kid’s artwork before but these frames you found are so fab! They look very high end.
What a great idea. My oldest isn’t even two, and I have started keeping her stuff in a pizza box. I love how you can easily change these ‘art’ pieces out. Thanks for posting this idea! Visiting from Show and Tell Wednesday.

Glad you found me and glad you’re a reader. 🙂
I didn’t keep every page of my kids artwork over the years and now regret it. Good idea to keep them in a drawer. I will be framing the few pieces that I do have left. Thanks for the inspiration.
