Thrifty Finds Mission

Sharing is caring!

My friend Kim and I are on a thrifty mission. We have been inspired by blogs like Raising Olives and House of Grace who have decorated their homes (and more) from amazing thrifty finds.
Kim and I both have husbands who are very frugal. Kim is a pro at finding deals. I feel like I am still  learning. Since the twins were born and our family has grown more and more, I rarely shop for things for our home. And I am going nuts! I want new things but I do not want to break the bank.
So, we are on a mission. We’ve made lists of exactly what we need to find for our homes. We are willing to refinish or freshen up anything that needs it as long as we are finding a great deal. Kim’s list includes three desks (one for each of her kids) and a chair to go with the desks. My list includes bar stools and two kitchen table chairs and a night stand for our master bedroom. This is not where our lists end of course, but these are the top items we are searching for.
How will we find them? We are marking our calenders with the local monthly Goodwill 50% off days as well as the large neighborhood garage sales in our area.
Saturday night our local Goodwill had a 50% off Midnight Madness sale which is different from their monthly sale- same great discount, but after dark.  Kim could not make it, but I knew what was on her list.
Here is what I found…
Desk: $7.50
Chair: $2.50
bookshelf: $2.50
(this is for my twins’ room)

More to come… let that season of thrift begin!

  1. Crystal, You were so kind to pick up the chair and desk for me. They are PERFECT! I can't wait to get them home. Thank you! Thank you!

OMG that is awesome! I am getting into the same thing and trying to be creative. I love reading blogs where they show you what they did with items they found. So cool!

  3. Kim- it was so much fun! Wish you coulda made it… they had so much stuff that night. Hope it works for Mr. Blake.

Life Without Pink- thanks for stopping by! You've gotta check out House of Grace's site. Every week people link up and share the cool thrifty finds they have scored.

Cancun- I love that idea! So pretty! Thanks for sharing the link!

  4. Great finds! I love Goodwill. Ours has been having great clothing sales, but nothing for furniture or household goods. I try to go pretty often but I generally only come away with one or two items. I try to be really picky about what I bring in, because with a family of seven, we just don't have a lot of room.

  5. Barb- my friend Kim is convinced (and I agree) that each Goodwill gets certain things.

In other words, this Goodwill has the biggest selection of books. That Goodwill has the biggest selection of furniture. The other Goodwill has the best selection of name brand clothes.

We swear they know what they are doing. So you might frequent a couple of different Goodwill's in your area and see if you find it to be the same.

  6. Great finds! I'm a little chicken to go after dark so I will have to stick with the 50% off days! I too have decorated my home and purchased tons of name-brand clothing for my family. I blog about my finds at http://www.ALittleJunkInMyTrunk.blogspot.com come visit!
